Songwriter and composer Daniel Knox lives and works in Chicago, but it’s not the Chicago known by most. His is a different city, a city almost entirely his own, set in the small hours. Something of a nocturnal creature, Knox roams a city of dark corners and quiet beauty. Upon discovery that most downtown hotels have a dilapidated old piano tucked away in the lobby, he began to teach himself. Roaming from hotel to hotel, from piano to piano, Knox learned his own unconventional style...

Knox's work has since inspired a diverse cast of collaborators that lie inside and outside his realm of alternative Americana, such as Jarvis Cocker, The Handsome Family, Rufus Wainwright, David Lynch, Andrew Bird, and Swans. The piano piece for Lynch's Inland Empire is a particular highlight, along with providing backing vocals for Cocker's Further Complications.

Daniel Knox is set to release his new album Chasescene on December 7th. It came together with a mixture of real-life experiences and gallows humour. Beautiful piano ballads one minute, dramatic string sections the next. Lead single 'Capitol' has old-time friend Jarvis Cocker on vocals, and it's a real beauty.
