Three incredible instrumental rock bands in one jam-packed Sunday evening!
Poly-Math, A Burial at Sea & Upcdownc
Polymath make densely layered, off kilter instrumental Math-Rock that leans on the heavier elements of the genre reminiscent of early Battles, The Mars Volta, and King Crimson. Polymath seek out new levels of complexity in their music whilst never straying too far from a neatly arranged composition. Immersed in prog sentiment, but without all the pretentiousness and self-serving bombast. Their music has the dynamic depth and sonic precision found in the best post-rock, but without the boring predictability. They are one of the most exciting instrumental rock bands in the entire country.
"Combining the vision and scope of prog rock with the urgency and energy of math. A dynamic, demented trio.” – The Independent
“No one should be able to write music this good, it's not fair” – Echoes and Dust
A Burial at Sea are a 4 piece, experimental post-rock band based in Liverpool. Drawing their influences from bands such as Explosions in The Sky, ASIWYFA and Clever Girl, they tastefully blend together complex instrumentalism with pensive and emotional songwriting. They made their debut here earlier in the year supporting Tera Melos, and it was a stunning performance.
Reviewed in The Isle of Thanet News:
"Sweet extended chords are picked, drums and bass join, the guitars get louder, and then half way through a bar of what feels like 97/12, the band break in to gargantuan choruses... then it all breaks back down like some kind of musical palindrome"
Upcdownc are a progressive, sludge, horror synth outfit from Medway. They have built up an enthusiastic European-wide following for their distinct sound: veering from stupendously heavy riffs & avant-garde guitar noise to finely crafted melodic soundscapes, with positive reviews from the mainstream & underground rock press alike.
